Event Details

The inaugural J. McDonald Williams Institute Dialogue Series event - "Cataloging Change in Dallas Neighborhoods" - will shed new light on the drivers of economic opportunity in Dallas neighborhoods. The event will be held at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in downtown Dallas.
Did you know that...
  • The poorest neighborhoods generally present the best investment opportunities?
  • 57% of economic change in Dallas neighborhoods over the past 20 years was driven by changes at the regional level?
  • Movement of people is the key mechanism of neighborhood change, and resident mobility is driven by access to jobs, transit and downtown amenities?
  • The "neighborhood taxonomy" approach yields highly nuanced estimates of the impact of an investment or intervention block-by-block and year-by-year?
  • The city of Dallas contains 10 of the 11 neighborhood types most commonly found in urban areas across the country?
At this inaugural Institute Dialogue Series event, leading national experts will present the results of the Dynamic Neighborhood Taxonomy program. This two year project on drivers of neighborhood change includes groundbreaking new analysis and tools to enable investors, developers, community organizations and governments to better target neighborhood investments.
Following the presentation of the taxonomy, we'll hear from a panel of practitioners from banking, community investment, and government about how this information might be used to change the economic future of our city's neighborhoods.
